چکیده

We analytically compare the word error probabilities of imperfectly symboland bit-interleaved block codes over GF(2m) on fading channels. We employ an approximate fading channel model of a two-state Markov chain, using statistics of the fadeand interfadedurations. The analytical method is based on a technique developed in [2]. Expressions are derived for two decoding strategies; independent bounded-distance decoding and error-forecasting decoding. Numerical results are presented for (16, 8, 9) Reed-Solomon codes over GF(24) on two typical fading channels. It is indicated that symbolinterleaving significantly outperforms bit-interleaving.

Performance Analysis of Linear Block Codes Over the Queue-Based Channel

Most coding schemes used in today’s communication systems are designed for memoryless channels. These codes break down when they are transmitted over channels with memory, which is in fact what real-world channels look like since errors often occur in bursts. Therefore, these systems employ interleaving to spread the errors so that the channel looks more or less memoryless (for the decoder) at ...

Performance of Interleaved Non-Binary Block Codes Over Binary Channels with Memory

The performance of Reed-Solomon codes over two classes of binary channels with memory, the queue-based channel (QBC) and the Gilbert-Elliott channel (GEC) is analyzed under the assumption of bounded distance decoding. In particular, we examine two interleaving strategies encountered when dealing with non-binary codes over a binary channel; namely, symbol interleaving and bit interleaving. An an...

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...

Analysis of Differential Orthogonal Space-Time Block Codes over Semi-Identical MIMO Fading Channels

We study the performance of differential orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBC) over independent and semi-identically distributed block Rayleigh fading channels. In this semi-identical fading model, the channel gains from different transmit antennas to a common receive antenna are identically distributed, but the gains associated with different receive antennas are non-identically distribute...

Concatenated space-time block coding with trellis coded modulation in fading channels

Trellis coded modulation (TCM) is a bandwidth efficient transmission scheme that can achieve high coding gain by integrating coding and modulation. This paper presents an analytical expression for the error event probability of concatenated space–time block coding with TCM which reveals some dominant factors affecting the system performance over slow fading channels when perfect interleavers ar...
